2008 Volunteer Opportunities (pdf) updated 2/8/08

This list does not include every volunteer opportunity. It is an abbreviated list of the more well-defined tasks and responsibilities designed to give potential volunteers an idea of how they can help. Certainly, if you envision a way in which you can help (and it's not on this list) do not hesitate to contact the Club by email or call the office at 812-333-8010.

Some of these positions are currently filled. These positions have been purposely left on this list in case additional help is needed and/or the position is expected to be vacated in the near future.

Cutters Soccer Club depends on volunteers to make soccer available to players in our communities. Following are general areas for which volunteers are needed.

Report Volunteer Hours

The following is in reference to the volunteer requirement for families with one or more children participating in travel soccer: Please submit volunteer hours here. It is important to note that this is a new procedure for reporting hours and those hours that have already been reported - either directly to a team representative or directly to March Hazen - should not be reported online. Hours previously reported will be added to those reported online to arrive at the total number of volunteer hours performed by each family.

Why Volunteer by Mary Runnells

Coaches and Managers (Cutters Academy)

Our recreational soccer program needs volunteer coaches for U6 through U14 teams. Teams practice one evening a week (either Monday or Tuesday, depending on the age group) and play games on Saturday morning. Volunteer coaches receive training before the season starts, and have trainers available to help them on practice nights. The teams also need a parent manager to help with communications to parents, passing out information, etc.

Fundraising

Fundraising volunteers can serve in several ways, depending upon their interests and the amount of time they can devote to it. They can serve on the Fundraising Committee, which plans and oversees various fundraising projects, or help write grants to fund specific programs and activities. Another option is to work on a specific fundraising project, such as selling Cutters blankets or fanwear, organizing the workers for the concessions stand at Assembly Hall, or working in the concessions stand.

Administrative/Clerical

We can always use help organizing papers, entering data, answering the phones - in other words, doing general office work. It's a great way to learn about what the club is doing.

Field Setup (Cutters Academy)

Before every training session and game day, the fields need to be set up - cones and goals put in place. If you can do it every session, or just a few, your help is welcome.

Age Group Commissioners (Cutters Academy)

To better facilitate communication between Cutters Soccer Club and parents, we are seeking Age Group Commissioners for each age group - U6 and U8 Boys, U8 Girls, U10 Girls, U10 Boys, U12, and U14. The Commissioner would send information from the Club to the parents in the age group - changes in schedules, pictures being available, announcements of events, etc. He or she could also facilitate getting information or questions from parents to the Club.

Board Positions

There is currently an opening for Registrar. The Registrar attends the monthly Board meeting and occasional Executive Committee meetings. The primary Registrar responsibility is overseeing the registration of players with Indiana Youth Soccer and of travel teams with the leagues in which they play.

Tournaments

Every Cutters travel team has a representative on the Tournament Committee that organizes the Hurryin' Hackers 3 v 3 tournament in July (open to travel, recreation, and adult players) and the Cutters Kickoff Jamboree over Labor Day weekend (an event for travel teams). This year we are also hosting preliminary rounds of State Cup and Challenge Cup. Anyone is welcome to join the organizing committee. We also need many volunteers to carry out the tasks leading up to the events and during the events. Working at the events is usually a 2- to 4-hour commitment.

Annual Benefit Dinner

The fundraising Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction is held in April and is open to anyone interested in soccer in Monroe and surrounding Counties. Help is needed planning for the dinner, soliciting sponsors and contributions for the silent auction, setting up the banquet hall, acting as receptionists at the dinner, and cleaning up.
