91 White vs. Muncie

CUTTERS ’91 WHITE OPEN CHALLENGE CUP WITH TIE

Game 1 Box Score

Muncie DC United – 3 Cutters ’91 White – 3 Goal Scorers: L.J. S. (5), Derwydd M. (3), Thomas W. (2)

May 19, 2007 COLUMBUS, IN – The biggest weekend in Indiana Youth Soccer and the much anticipated arrival of the Cutters ’91 White boys soccer team has finally arrived. Last year, the Cutters team advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament before bowing out. This year, however, the team has greater expectations of advancing even further.

The Cutters ’91 White team got off to a slow start in the 2007 IYS Challenge Cup with a tie against Muncie DC United by a score of 3-3. With a re-formatted defensive line, the Cutters were still trying to figure each other out, while giving up goals they normally wouldn’t give up.

“I was a little disappointed with their play today, but we’re going to fix it,” Coach Nick Hannah explained after the game. “We had a completely new set-up in the back, so it will take some time for them to get used to each other.”

The Cutters, however, were crisp offensively. Forwards Derwydd M. and L.J. S. both notched goals as well as midfielder Thomas W.

Even though the Cutters didn’t move the ball around the field as well as they liked, they were still able to walk away with a tie, which is important in this tournament. History says that if a team suffers one loss, they are all but eliminated from the tournament. The top team in each division advances, so it is imperative that a team gets at least a point.

“This team has a lot of fight in them, even if they don’t have their best stuff,” Hannah said. “They didn’t give up against a pretty good team.

“We’ll play better in the afternoon.”

The afternoon game will be against Dynamo FC Red at 4:00 PM in Columbus, IN. In the other game within the division, Dynamo tied Columbus Express 3-3 as well, so everyone is tied going into the 2nd game of the tournament.
