Saturday’s game featured two very evenly matched teams on a day that was drenched in sun with beautifully painted blue skies overhead. Both teams battled early to dictate play in an exciting and intense match-up.

Will K. scored off a corner kick set piece delivered perfectly over the goalkeeper's head by Doug V. in the first half. In the second half, Derwydd M. broke free up the middle of the field to force the goalkeeper to make a quick decision. The GK was not able to come up with the ball and Derwydd made him pay by finishing on an empty net.

“I was pleased with their performance today,” Coach Hannah said following the game. “They worked hard and they were able to move the ball around quickly, which we weren’t able to do against GLSC.

“We certainly took a step forward today.”

Sunday Box Score:

Cutters ‘91 White 1 - Fusion Orange 1
Goal Scorers: Thomas W. (1)

Sunday was a battle for both teams. Three yellow cards were given in total throughout the game. With both teams experiencing fatigue throughout the game, the game was rather stale and stagnant. In the second half, the Fusion took it to the Cutters by being relentless on goal. Corbin F., the Cutters' goalkeeper, looked more like superman in goal making saves that left the fans in awe. Will K. was also given player of the game by the coaching staff for his hard work in the back. With the Cutters down 1-0 with around 10 minutes remaining in the game, Coach Hannah decided to add another forward up top to provide more fire power. With around five minutes remaining Thomas W. broke free on a breakaway to tie the game up at one apiece.

"I told the guys at the end of the game that I was proud of the way they played," Hannah said following the game. "They weren't particularly sharp today and I firmly believe that is because of fitness. Part of that is my fault, so we are going to try to correct that.

"Many of the errors we were making, such as their first touch, were a direct cause of lack of focus, which was a cause of their fatigue. It's a simple deduction, really."

Hannah and the rest of his coaching staff seemed pleased after the game ended even though they didn't play that well. But Hannah feels as though there is nothing to worry about.

"We're going to get at it on Tuesday to solve some of the issues we're having. I think this team is improving nicely and I feel as though they are really coming together as a team."

The Cutters will continue in action beginning on Saturday of this weekend. They will travel to Center Grove for a 2:30 PM kickoff. Their weekend activity will conclude on Sunday with a rematch with the GLSC U17AA team. The Cutters lost a week ago this past Sunday to GLSC by a score of 2-1.

"We're excited for that game," Hannah said on Monday in a phone interview. "I think the boys are going to be geared up for that one for a little revenge. That one will be easy for us to motivate them as they know what is at stake.

"It is important that we stay focused all week long on the details and that we work hard in everything we do, whether it is during practice or in a game. If we do that, we will get that first 'W' this weekend."

Stay tuned for more Cutters' 91 White soccer!
