Cutters ’91 White – 2 Dynamo ’91 Red – 0 Goal Scorers: L.J. S. (6), Derwydd M. (4)
COLUMBUS, IN – The U16 Cutters ’91 White took it personally that they didn’t bring their “A” game earlier that morning. They expect to advance, so they knew a better performance in the afternoon game was essential. They certainly didn’t disappoint with a 2-0 win.
According to Cutters Coach Nick Hannah, Dynamo FC has always been a premier boy’s soccer club, more so when he was growing up, so he has the utmost respect for all of their teams. However, on this particular day, the Cutters SC looked more like the premier soccer club as they used Dynamo as a mop to clean off the field.
The Cutters moved the ball around the field at will, as if they do it in their sleep. They forced Dynamo to chase the ball the whole game and with only one substitute at their disposal, they tired quickly.
“That’s what we want to do … we want to tire our opponent out by moving the ball quickly, making them chase,” Hannah said with a smile following the game. “They finally clicked and they are now getting it.
“It certainly doesn’t take a genius to play this game; just keep it simple.”
L.J. S. and Derwydd M. continued their dominance on goal as they both score again, bringing their total to two goals apiece on the day. L.J. S. scored first off of a beautiful cross from the left side of the field. Standing in the right place at the right time, L.J. slammed the ball in the back of the net to increase the team high six goals on the season. Derwydd M. finished the game off by scoring on one of his many breakaways.
Goalkeeper Corbin F. notched his second clean sheet of the season, but he didn’t have to do much on this afternoon as his defense looked night and day from the morning game. They looked as though they played together as a unit in the back while making excellent decisions and this certainly didn’t go unnoticed by their coach.
“It was awesome,” Coach Hannah said. “Alex² [Alex D. and Alex P.] were awarded co-player’s of the game because they were the two best players on that field. They made play after play and good decision after good decision.”
“This team was fun to watch this afternoon. We’re extremely confident right now.”
The team will try to carry that confidence forward into their final game of the Challenge Cup Preliminary Round on Sunday in Bloomington, IN at 4:00 PM against Columbus. The winner of that game advances to the semi-finals.
